The Ten Best Songs Ever
Posted on August 27, 2025
Greetings and salutations!
Everyone and their momma has a list of “the best songs” — maybe not an actual, physical one, but if you were to ask, there for sure would be one in their mind.
And I am glad people have those lists, I really am, because it means that music isn’t just background noise for them, but something at least a little important. Something that they have to think about a tiny bit.
The thing is — and please don’t scream at me when I say this — I think I am the only person who actually figured out the ten best songs ever.
01. "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode
02. "Always" by Erasure
03. "All Eyes On Me" (song only) by Bo Burnham
04. "Who Wants To Live Forever" by Queen
05. "No Children" by The Mountain Goats
06. "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC
07. "Anarchy in the UK" by Sex Pistols
08. "Piano Man" by Billy Joel
09. "Adieu" by Rammstein
10. "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)" by Meat Loaf
I can almost hear your protests, now. “But those aren’t the best!” and “And where is [insert the name of a song not on my list]?” And you are correct to be screaming those at your computer and phone screens, you really are. But you are wrong. These ten are the absolute best pieces of (modern) music that have ever been made.
If you know me — in real life or online — you might be asking yourself where is Tu tu du du aka "33 Max Verstappen" by Carte Blanq and Maxx Power or any song by Pink Floyd or One Direction. And yes, you are right — I do love those. But no matter how much I love those, I can admit that "Enjoy the Silence" or "Piano Man" just take the cake. They ate and left no crumbs, if you will (and even if you won’t).
And when it comes to my top three? I would have to say the first three songs of the list, no matter what.
I believe Bo Burnham is a lyrical genius, the album Inside proving that once and for all.
Are you feeling nervous? Are you having fun?
It's almost over; It's just begun
Don't overthink this; Look in my eye
Don't be scared, don't be shy
I think Depeche Mode’s "Enjoy the Silence" and Erasure’s "Always" have the same, very specific vibe that cannot really be replicated by anyone else, and it’s impossible to explain it — either you feel it or you don’t.
This might have been controversial, or it might have been totally expectable. Who knows? All I know is that this list is very correct, I am very into music, and my husband is a saint because I make him listen to these songs way too often.
And now, to quote M*A*S*H: Goodbye, Farewell and Amen
